Ellen Alberding has announced plans to step down as president and CEO of The Joyce Foundation after 34 years.
Under her leadership, Joyce became one of the largest funders of gun violence prevention research and policy development and maintained its focus on improving education outcomes for all children in the region.
Alberding spearheaded the launch of Advance Illinois and the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, initiatives aimed at college and career readiness in the education system.
“On behalf of the Board, I would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Ellen for her decades of service and commitment to the Joyce Foundation,” said board chair José B. Alvarez in a news release. “Under Ellen’s leadership, Joyce rose to national prominence for its work advancing policy solutions to address some of the biggest challenges facing our region and nation. Hers is a remarkable legacy that leaves Joyce well-positioned to continue its critical investments in improving the lives and wellbeing of people in the Great Lakes region”
The board of directors of the Joyce Foundation will launch a search for Alberding’s successor in January 2024.
